Sea Kayaks

If you are a white water enthusiast, you should check out the world of sea kayaks! There are two types of craft available, recreational or touring craft. Recreational kayaks are normally 10 to 15 feet long and are anywhere from 25 to 30 inches wide with flat bottoms. Because of their large cockpits they are very stable but a little slow. Sea Kayaks are generally a bit pricier as more reinforcement and higher integrity materials are required.

Touring sea kayaks are longer yet and range from 14 to 20 feet. They are a bit narrower than recreational craft at about 20 to 25 inches but get faster the narrower they are. Generally you will not find this a suitable beginner kayak as they are less stable and require more skill to keep them upright.

If you use a spray skirt on a touring kayak they can be used in very rough water. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between a recreational or touring boat as some are called hybrids and other light touring boats. Usually the spray skirt will differentiate the two.
